"Sustainable Development" is by definition a development that "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". In our global world, this concept has no geographical boundaries and establishes a link between current and future generations.

Air transport industry is a very long life-cycle industry, which designs, produces and delivers aircraft that will serve a worldwide market, with no boundaries. As such, it is fully in line with the concept of sustainable development. The way, for a company like Airbus, to implement sustainable development practices into its business is to develop a global strategy on Corporate Social Responsibility. The first step in this long journey is to engage the company towards eco-efficiency, taking into account the overall environmental issues and their associated economic consequences, throughout the whole aircraft life-cycle.
